I not only have read all 20 of the Coffeehouse Mysteries, I own them。 I have to say, this was my least favorite of them all。 The story was too drawn out, and the relationships are getting stale, i。e。Claire and Mike panting after one another every second。I'm a character driven reader, and I could have cared less about the supporting cast in this story 。This has been a great series, but this one, not so much! This book was a delight! I love this series for its character, location, and the very punny writing that is full of chuckles even in the darkest time。 This time, with a tv show being filmed here there were some fun "behind the scenes" moments that truly brought an even more buzzing atmosphere to the story。 I love how this is an edgier cozy, a bit more graphic, more face to black / closed door romance scenes (I think those are the right terms…。), the discussions about substance abuse。 There was A This book was a delight! Dollycas's ThoughtsClare Cosi was smiling ear to ear when she learned that a hit streaming show Only Murders in Gotham would be filming at, in front of, and around the Village Blend。 She is a huge fan of one of the show's stars, comedian Jerry Sullivan and she has been absolutely gushing about him and his career。 She didn't know he had quite a history at the Village Blend and with Madame, her ex-mother-in-law and owner of the coffeehouse though。 He did do his best to help everyone feel at ease a Dollycas's ThoughtsClare Cosi was smiling ear to ear when she learned that a hit streaming show Only Murders in Gotham would be filming at, in front of, and around the Village Blend。 She is a huge fan of one of the show's stars, comedian Jerry Sullivan and she has been absolutely gushing about him and his career。 She didn't know he had quite a history at the Village Blend and with Madame, her ex-mother-in-law and owner of the coffeehouse though。 He did do his best to help everyone feel at ease around himself, his crew, and other members of the cast。 He couldn't wait to try Clare's bulletproof coffee and he liked it so much that he gave her the craft services contract。Shortly after the production started rehearsing and filming strange "accidents" began to happen。 One man was severely injured on a stage, another appeared to be poisoned right in front of the coffeehouse, and then a live bullet was fired from a prop gun。 Thankfully the victim was wearing a bulletproof vest。  Clare knows these are not harmless pranks or accidents, someone is trying to sabotage the show。With the cast and crew spending so much time at Village Blend Clare has the opportunity to start her own investigation but if she's not careful she could be the killer's next victim and a cup of bulletproof coffee won't be able to save her。_____I love the theme of this story。 A show shooting at Village Blend is so New York。 It is clear that the author drew inspiration from Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez。 A show I sadly have fallen behind watching but have seen enough of to see the parallels between the two shows。The production does bring all kinds of new characters into the story。 Each it seems has their own agenda and secrets。 Clare comes in contact with all of them so it should be easy for her to figure out what is going on。 Mike would like Clare to leave any investigating to the police but he is busy with his own cases, so much so he even asks her for some help。 I like that Matt is around for Clare and that she even gets some one-on-one time with Madame where she learns some pertinent information。 All the employees at Village Blend really got involved in this storyline too。 There were a lot of characters to keep straight but Ms。 Coyle does an excellent job at creating characters that are unique and memorable。Ms。 Coyle gives readers a look at all the drama that happens behind the scenes of a successful show。 The fan club president, the grips, the gaffer, the costumes, the prop master, the director, the actors, and the craft services。 It takes a lot of people to bring a show to our television screens。 In this story, there is also "The Player" would has a mission all their own。 Clare really had her eyes opened as she saw how cut-throat show business really is。There is a lot going on within these pages。 Injuries, death, drugs, stalking, secrets, lies, a snake, a bulletproof barista, and more are all twisted together to make a heck of a story。 Twists and turns galore make this a very hard book to put down which is something I have come to expect from this author so I plan accordingly。 I enjoyed the way all the way all the clues came together for Clare but what I loved was that she had a plan to expose the killer and she got all the right people on board。 That showdown was fabulous。I can't believe this is the 20th book in the series and how far the core characters have come。 Honey Roasted is still my favorite but BulletProof Barista is impressive too。 Readers had to wait a while for this book。 I hope we don't have to wait as long for the next one because I am beyond excited to see what the author has in store for these characters next。 。。。more

I wasn’t at all lost or confused about the characters。 The authors do a great job at making you feel as if you already know them。 They provide you with plenty of information, so you won’t be lost! Jump in here with me!The premise of this book was so much fun。 A streaming network is filming scenes for their hit show, Only Murders in Gotham, at the Village Blend, the coffeehouse setting of this series。 Clare Cosi is the manager of Village Blend and the main character in the Coffeehouse Mystery series。 She’s obviously thrilled that Only Murders in Gotham is filming in the coffeehouse, and she and the baristas are elated that they’re going to be extras in the episodes filmed there。 But, when a crew member is rushed to the hospital after consuming a competitor’s coffee and one of the baristas is shot with a real bullet that was supposed to be a blank, Clare knows that danger lurks on the set。 I really enjoyed Bulletproof Barista, and I’m glad I didn’t worry about reading 19 books first! I thought that the characters were very realistic, and when Clare got to meet one of her favorite actors, I could see myself fan-girling right along with her。 The baristas who work for Clare are all quirky and delightful。 Clare’s ex Matt, who is the coffee buyer for Village Blend, is kind of a piece of work but also kind of a really great guy。 You’ll see when you read this! I love Clare’s NYPD “OD Squad” Detective boyfriend, Mike Quinn。 I know many women say they don’t like protective men, but as long as they aren’t controlling, I say, “Protect away!” I’d love to be protected by a guy like Mike。 Matt’s mom, Madame, has owned Village Blend for decades。 I adore her。 She’s smart, sweet, savvy, and so much more! I can’t do her justice in a couple of sentences, and you’ll enjoy getting to know her through the book。 The actors, crew, body guards, etc。 are written so well that you’ll start to think you know them… You don’t! Of course, no one is based on real-life people, but because of Coyle’s descriptive writing, you’ll think they are! The frenetic pace of the cast and crew make the mystery so much harder to solve! Just like on a “real” set, there are down times, but there’s no time for downtime in this cozy mystery。 It takes you to different parts of the city and gives you lots of suspects。 Plus, you never know who the next victim will be。 I enjoyed the different settings with some being calming and cozy and others having a colder, industrial feel。 Following the twists and turns in this mystery may make you feel as if you’ve had a triple espresso from Village Blend! Get ready for the rush! I highly recommend Bulletproof Barista for its variety of exceptional characters, alternating settings, and twisty, turny mystery! I’m looking forward to the next Coffeehouse Mystery from Cleo Coyle!I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book。 All views expressed are only my honest opinion。 。。。more

Clare will have to keep her baristas safe and the cast and crew caffeinated as she tries to uncover the culprit。 I've enjoyed the Coffeehouse mysteries for almost two decades but this, the twentieth novel, knocked it out of the park。 Like the Village Blend pastries, nothing is stale。 The mystery is fresh with apparent insider knowledge of show business and filming。 There are clues mixed in with red herrings, action laced with humor, and character depth and development。。。along with depravity。 The dirty dealings of Driftwood made me grit my teeth and grrrr。 That's just one instance indicating how invested I am in these characters。I loved the storyline with its aging comedian and young pop star odd couple filming a television series that ultimately is a story of redemption。。。at least for some characters。 The plot was reality based, at least the reality that is show business, and kept me intrigued, not only by wondering what the Player would do next, but what the endgame really was。Smart sleuthing and perfect pacing with scenes that will give you an adrenalin rush BULLETPROOF BARISTA is a stellar mystery full of caffeinated goodness that will keep you quickly turning the pages。 。。。more

I am a big fan of the Coffeehouse Mysteries series, and I had high hopes for Bulletproof Barista。Only Murders in Gotham is filming at the Village Blend, using the staff as extras, and Clare is beyond excited。 She’s a long-time fan of Jerry Sullivan, one of the stars of the show。 And when he’s won over by her new bulletproof coffee blend and offers the Blend the show’s craft services contract, well, that’s just bonus。 But all is not well in TV land。 There are suspicions that someone may be trying I am a big fan of the Coffeehouse Mysteries series, and I had high hopes for Bulletproof Barista。Only Murders in Gotham is filming at the Village Blend, using the staff as extras, and Clare is beyond excited。 She’s a long-time fan of Jerry Sullivan, one of the stars of the show。 And when he’s won over by her new bulletproof coffee blend and offers the Blend the show’s craft services contract, well, that’s just bonus。 But all is not well in TV land。 There are suspicions that someone may be trying to sabotage the show。 When Tucker, barista and aspiring actor, is shot during filming, Clare has to get to the bottom of things for her crew’s safety。As always, the characters are wonderful。 Madame is sharp as a tack, and she’s got important backstory to contribute。 Matt’s relationship with Clare is still slightly flirty, but I get the feeling that they really do see each other as friends and allies, and Matt proves himself a reliable business partner here when Clare is caught up chasing a lead。 The show characters are all intriguing: Sebastian, the director who seems to have something to hide; Kylee, the ingenue in a lead role who may be more than she appears; Hutch, the newly minted armorer for the show when the previous armorer becomes a victim; Lizzy Meeks, the president of Jerry Sullivan’s fan club; and Jerry himself, an aging comedian who wants to protect the show’s reputation。There’s a twist in this book。 Usually Mike is doing everything he can to keep Clare from digging into mysteries。 Here, he asks for her help as her concerns dovetail with a drug investigation his squad is pursuing。 It was fun having them able to compare notes and for Clare to be able to freely discuss the results of her investigation with Mike。Here our antagonist is identified as the Player。 As is customary, Coyle gives us snippets of the Player’s viewpoint and thoughts。 That adds to the tension of the book for me。 We get a little hint as to what’s coming next, but Clare has no idea。 And I was well and truly surprised by who the Player turned out to be。 Kudos to Coyle for keeping me in the dark!I’ve seen reviews comparing the show in this book to Only Murders in the Building。 I haven’t ever seen that show, so I can’t draw any comparisons between the two。 I will say that this story gave me a whole new insight into the world of show business! The infighting, the intense focus on public opinion as shown in Jerry’s extreme reluctance to involve the police, the – well, the drama。 Every time Clare was surprised about something, Tucker told her that’s just how the business is, and wow, it seems cutthroat。 I learned a lot, and I’m even more convinced I’d like to stay far, far away from the bright lights of fame! And of course, there are several delicious recipes included! The Coffeehouse Mystery series continues to be a favorite for me。 Cleo Coyle is one of my must-read authors, and Bulletproof Barista does not disappoint! 。。。more

And why? This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series, despite some things that drive me up the wall。 The coffeeshop is cozy and filled with eclectic characters that feel so authentic to New York City。 The different adventures Clare has had throughout the series have introduced the readers to so many different locations and social circles and festivities around the city, it's been like a mini behind-the-scenes tour。 In this book we get a glimpse of a film set and how people respond to filming in an area that's generally crawling with people。 It was a nice unique twist on the same familiar setting。 I think this series is a must-read for fans of cozy mysteries, particularly for those who enjoy a city setting and/or like coffee。[Stepping up on soapbox。]Here's what drives me bonkers about this series, perhaps even more so in this book than in previous books。 Clare has an ex-husband named Matteo, or Matt。 She has a fiancé named Mike。 Every time she sees Mike (once or twice per book) she gets all hot and bothered, she cooks for him or brings him something to eat and they have some sort of physical interaction (spanning from making out to。。。。 well, you know。) As soon as his hungers have been satisfied, Mike's gone。 Matt is always there for Clare, listening to her problems, giving her advice, watching her back, backing her up, rescuing her (or someone else)。 He's her rock。See my problem? Mike is just using Clare for a warm bed and a hot meal (innuendos intended)。 They do NOT have a real relationship, they hardly know each other。 Mike doesn't give two hoots for Clare。 If she stopped feeding him or having sex with him, she would never see him again。 And Clare doesn't give two hoots for Mike。 She lusts after him and respects his dedication to his chosen profession。 That's it。 She's throwing herself at him because she likes the way he looks and he's catching because, well, a man has to eat。 The situation makes Clare look so pathetic it's almost unbearably sad。In previous books, when Clare needed someone, she immediately called Matt。 She didn't even consider calling Mike。 Why bother? He doesn't have time for her。 In this book she actually did try to call Mike。 Guess what? He didn't respond。 But Matt did。 In this book there was some bickering between Clare and Matt, which felt completely manufactured。 There seemed to be some attempt at bringing Mike into the story more, which failed miserably because he is who he is。 I feel like the authors have heard from people who share my opinion about this and they're trying to turn the boat around。 It didn't work。 The character development has been so strong in this series, any attempt to bring Mike in and muscle Matt out is going to feel false。 I can't stress enough how strongly I dislike Mike Quinn's character and how much I wish Clare and Matt would get back together。 Yes, in the bad old days Matt was not a good guy and he hurt Clare in a lot of ways。 But he's not the same person he was。 He's proven that time and again。 Yes, he's dating around again after his second divorce, but to me that feels like he is still in love with Clare and he's trying to fill the void。 He's been everything a good partner should be for Clare, even supporting her while she fawns over another man who is using her and neglecting her and making a fool out of her。[Stepping off of soapbox。]If you haven't tried this series yet, it's definitely worth a read!Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC。 。。。more

A hit streaming show is being filmed in New York and the Village Blend has been chosen as the setting for the newest episode, hiring some of the shop’s staff as extras。 When an actual shooting occurs and one of Clare’s employees is nearly killed, she can’t help but get involved in the investigation。This is book #20 (!!) in this series, which I have enjoyed since the very first book, even though I’m not a coffee aficionado。 I have never spent significant time in New York City, but the description A hit streaming show is being filmed in New York and the Village Blend has been chosen as the setting for the newest episode, hiring some of the shop’s staff as extras。 When an actual shooting occurs and one of Clare’s employees is nearly killed, she can’t help but get involved in the investigation。This is book #20 (!!) in this series, which I have enjoyed since the very first book, even though I’m not a coffee aficionado。 I have never spent significant time in New York City, but the descriptions in these books make me feel like I’m there, and I can smell the roasting/brewing coffee with every page。 After all these books, the characters feel like old friends, and I have enjoyed watching all the different relationships change and develop over the course of the series。 The mystery in this book was, as usual, well done, with plenty of suspects to think about。 The same names stayed on my mental list throughout the book, but their order kept changing as new information was uncovered。 I wasn’t entirely sure I had the right culprit until just before it was revealed in the book。 I will admit that the wedding-related angst suffered by both Clare and Mike was a bit tedious, but they eventually worked through it – individually and together – so I hope that part of the story line has run its course。 I’m eager to read the next book in the series to find out what happens next for the staff at the Village Blend。Thank you to Edelweiss and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book。 。。。more

I recently finished reading Bulletproof Barista, and I must say, it was a well-written and delightful book。 The book's engaging mystery, well-developed characters, and vivid New York City setting all added to its allure。Although this is the first book in the series that I've read, I still found it to be a very entertaining read。You're in for a treat with this short, entertaining mystery that will keep you guessing。 If you're a fan of cozy mysteries, I highly recommend giving this book a read!Tha I recently finished reading Bulletproof Barista, and I must say, it was a well-written and delightful book。 The book's engaging mystery, well-developed characters, and vivid New York City setting all added to its allure。Although this is the first book in the series that I've read, I still found it to be a very entertaining read。You're in for a treat with this short, entertaining mystery that will keep you guessing。 If you're a fan of cozy mysteries, I highly recommend giving this book a read!Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for allowing me to read and review this book。 。。。more

Happy 20th book in Coyle's Coffeehouse Mystery series! In Bulletproof Barista, Claire and friends are providing catering and location for the filming of the secobd season of Only Murders in Gotham。 But the set seems plagued with one problem after another and it's getting dangerous。 The silver-haired comedian who stars wants to keep the police out as much as possible。 Can Claire get to the bottom of things before someone else gets hurt? So, they're filming Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin and Selena Gomez。 I was surprised at how thinly veiled the references were。 Obviously, the title。 The main actor was a silver-haired comedian who's had a bunch of hit movies, some of which were about the father of a bride。 The costar was a pop star turned actress (instead of an actress turned pop star)。 The show even airs on a streaming service rather than a regular network。 Overall, the mystery was fine, but there just seemed to be too much going on。 。。。more

The staff at The Village Blend get involved as the the streaming series Only Murders in Gotham films at their location。 A series of bizarre accidents seems to be following the crew of the show and Barista Clare Cosi decides to investigate after an accident almost kills a member of her staff。 This is a quick, lighthearted mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat。 Thanks to Netgalley for an arc of this book。
